No Sugar, No Flour: The Best Kept Secret to Weight Loss

But when I was losing weight for the last time, I was doing mostly no sugar, no flour. And let me tell you–it was an absolute game changer! So today, I’m telling you all about why this has such a crazy impact on your weight loss and why this is something I recommend to my clients (in a way that’s customized and sustainable for them).

It is by no means a one-size-fits-all approach. YOU have the freedom to define what "no sugar, no flour" means for you, and align it with your goals and preferences. So without further ado, let’s dig into what I think has to be one of THE best kept secrets to losing weight for the last time! 

Balancing your hunger hormones

One of the main reasons I’m so obsessed with no sugar, no flour, is because of the effects and the benefits that it has on your hunger hormones.

Your hunger hormones are insulin, leptin, and ghrelin, and the way that we lose weight inside the Yummy Mummy Experience is by balancing our hunger hormones (not calories in vs calories out). When these hormones are in harmony, weight loss becomes a breeze.

When you ditch processed sugar and flour, you’ll stop getting hormonally hungry. You know that rollercoaster of hunger you experience after indulging in sugary treats or flour-packed meals? That's your hormones going wild. Insulin, our friendly fat storage hormone, goes, "Hey, let's store some fat!" Meanwhile, it puts the brakes on burning the fat already in your body – not what we want, right?

And then comes the crash. We've all been there – the dreaded hanger that emerges a couple of hours after you’ve eaten a sugary breakfast and you’re ready to eat your desk. Yep, that's the sugar and flour rollercoaster wreaking havoc on your body.

If you're not truly physically hungry, we don't want to be eating because that is what makes us weigh what we don't want to weigh.

Break free from food addiction

These white powdery substances are designed to make you addicted to them. Seriously, there are labs dedicated to making your brain's pleasure centers light up like Times Square when you eat these foods. They want you hooked. If you’ve ever had any other addictions like smoking, it's exactly the same concept – once you start to lower your desire, you won't crave it anymore.

You might be thinking, "I can't give up sugar and flour forever!" Don't worry; I’m not asking you to. Most of my clients enjoy a weekly "joy eat" or "Yummy Mummy munchy" to satisfy their cravings. But the magic is that by eliminating sugar and flour, your cravings diminish. You just won't want them as much. It's like breaking free from food addiction and everything just becomes so much easier.

Fat adapted

It is so much easier to become fat adapted when you remove sugar and flour. 

But what does “fat adapted” mean? 

It just means that your body can use the fat in your body for fuel, which is how we are designed and how we evolved. Food did not used to be readily available–back in the cavewoman days, we were all fat adapted because we could go 36 hours without food. So we weren't experiencing those big spikes and those big crashes. 

This is great because if you are in a meeting and you experience true physical hunger, it's just like a gentle rolling. It's not this emergency hormonal hunger that shows up when you have to pull over, go to the gas station, and grab something sugary. Being fat adapted makes it so much easier to handle hunger.
