how to NOT fall off the wagon ever again
My 2.5 year old daughter is learning how to ride her strider bike, which I noticed is exactly like trying to lose weight for the last time.
She falls all the time. Like all the time.
It is actually kind of brutal to watch.
But she always gets back up. Always. Every single time.
And every time she says to herself and whoever is around:
“I got it.”
“I’ll be okay.”
And then most importantly,
“What happened? Why did I fall?”
I help her to see why she fell.
This doesn’t mean she doesn’t ever fall again.
It just means she learns and gets a little better each time.
She doesn’t expect that she should ride her strider perfectly. She doesn’t beat herself up for falling. She doesn’t completely throw in the towel.
She just gets back up and tries again with her new knowledge and does better.
Most of us think there are only two ways to deal with “falling off the wagon” (or should I say bike!):
Let ourselves off the hook, completely quit
Beat ourselves up like cray
Neither of these work in helping us to achieve our intended goal.
The only way to ever deal with be “falling” or failing or making a mistake is to say to yourself:
“It is okay, I got it” and then with childlike curiosity, “What happened? What can I learn so I am just a little better next time?”
PS I teach the NEW solution (read: this isn't just weight watchers rebranded) to permanent weight loss that actually works. I teach you how to balance your hunger hormones and rewire your brain so you don’t have the desire to overeat or eat the foods that keep you where you are at. This is the only thing I found that works for losing weight for the last time. (and trust me I have tried everything). You have to give yourself a chance at this. This was the secret for me.
