When Listening is a bad thing
Do you talk to yourself more than you listen to yourself?
I recently heard this idea and it is genius.
Most of us walk around letting our brains run the show.
Most of us just listen to what our brains tell us and then we believe them.
Sometimes this works and sometimes this doesn’t.
For things like brushing our teeth or driving listening to our programmed brains is great.
BUT for things like achieving big goals or doing something we have never done before or accomplishing something that is uncomfortable, this usually never works.
Like going on that first date or making a certain amount of money or teaching your first yoga class or having the hard conversation or finally being in the body we want to be in or giving birth without drugs or delivering the pitch.
This is when we have to step in and talk to ourselves to get the result we want.
If we listen instead of talk, 9 times out of 10 we won’t get what we really want.
