Episode 2 | Why Discomfort is a Dream Maker
I talked a little bit about discomfort in episode 1, but I know you need to hear this, so I’m devoting this episode to talking about discomfort and what it means in your journey of losing weight for the last time.
Human brains are creations of duality. The “conscious mind,” the desire to use rational thought and self-improve, finds discomfort when things stay the same. The “unconscious mind” in the back of the brain, which exists solely to seek pleasure, avoid pain, and maximize its efficiency in doing so, finds discomfort in change — and it’s the reason why losing weight is so difficult.
Each of us must choose which discomfort we intend to face. Life coach Brooke Castillo says, “discomfort is the currency for your dreams. [It] is the discomfort that is required for us to change, to be in unfamiliar situations, to have our identity shifting, to be in a body that's thinner than we recognize.”
Think about it: if you’re going to experience discomfort either way, why not experience the discomfort that improves your quality of life?
